Yallingup Beach
The northern, more sheltered end of the Margaret River region and the wave the Yallingup school is built around. An exposed reef break with both left and right options and reliable surf, working best on SW groundswell — groundswells outnumber windswells here — with a south-easterly offshore, and rideable across all stages of the tide. Its position around the corner from the full force of the Southern Ocean is what makes it the region's approachable option, though 'approachable' is relative on a coast like this one.

Graded from Level 3, not Level 1: it is the gentlest of the four Australian breaks catalogued here, but it is still a reef, and the sources describe a shore break as well as the reef peaks. Absolute beginners in this region should be in a school lesson on the sand rather than out here on their own. One seasonal caveat the sources disagree on and worth knowing before you plan around it: surf-forecast records summer as the most consistent clean-wave window here, while also noting that summer tends to be mostly flat. Both statements come from the same page; treat summer as unreliable rather than good.
