Bali
Uluwatu / the Bukit · Indonesia
The all-round gold standard. Cheapest of the truly well-connected hubs and surf peaks in July–August — just expect to work nights if your team is in the US.

Some of the best surf towns are also good places to set up a laptop for a few weeks or a month. Here are the destinations from our where-to-surf table that hold up for remote work, weighed on the four things that actually matter: cost of living, internet, time zone, and whether the surf is any good while you're there.
Rough planning estimates, not quotes. Monthly budgets assume a mid-range setup — a private room or small studio, eating out some, a coworking pass — and swing a lot with season and lifestyle. Internet, prices and visa rules change; treat this as a starting point and check current sources before you book.
Ordered by overall fit. The top picks are flagged; after that it's about matching the place to your work hours and the season you're travelling.
Uluwatu / the Bukit · Indonesia
The all-round gold standard. Cheapest of the truly well-connected hubs and surf peaks in July–August — just expect to work nights if your team is in the US.
La Punta · Mexico
Best value if you work US hours. The famous Zicatela is experts-only, but La Punta and Carrizalillo are mellow — the town surfs for everyone.
Nicoya Peninsula · Costa Rica
The most plug-and-play option and very safe — but the priciest here, and the access road is famously rough.
Santa Catarina · Brazil
The strongest July–August + US-hours combo after the Mexico/Costa Rica picks — the safest capital in Brazil, the best internet on this list, and in-season winter surf (Praia Mole, Joaquina). The catch: cold water, so pack a 3/2 wetsuit.
Riviera Nayarit · Mexico
A softer, more comfortable alternative to Puerto — beginner-friendly waves and an easy first trip, a touch pricier and it rains in summer.
Las Palmas / Fuerteventura · Spain
A Europe-hours base with the mildest winter in Europe. The surf peaks Oct–Mar, so think of it as a cool-season pick.
near Lisbon · Portugal
A polished Europe-hours base 45 minutes from Lisbon, with reliable internet and a proper surf-town scene. Best waves in the cooler months.
My Khe · Vietnam
The cheapest strong nomad hub on the list — superb for work, but the surf goes flat in mid-summer, so come in autumn or winter.
Tamraght / Aourir · Morocco
A budget winter escape a short flight from Europe. Warm points and a growing coworking scene — surf peaks Oct–Mar.
South coast · Sri Lanka
The cheapest option by some margin and a lovely learner coast — but the patchiest internet here, so best for a surf-first month with lighter work.
Pair this with the where-to-surf table to check what the waves, water and crowds are doing in the month you're planning to go.
