Playa Encuentro
The Dominican Republic's premier surf beach — a cluster of reef and sand peaks a few km west of Cabarete, from the gentle sandy beginner zone (Bobo's / La Playita) to punchy reef breaks like Coco Pipe, La Izquierda and Destroyer. Warm water, rideable waves most mornings, best on winter North Atlantic swells, and the densest concentration of surf schools in the Caribbean.

The inside beginner area is sandy and forgiving and is where every school runs first-timer lessons; the outer reef peaks are for improvers and up, with sea urchins and shallow reef on the low tide. Mornings are cleanest before the trade wind builds — learn with a school first.
