Joaquina is Florianópolis's signature beach break and the island's most consistent wave — a powerful sand-bottom a-frame that has hosted national and pro contests. It works across the size range, with mellow inside reforms for improvers and punchy outside peaks when the winter south swell fills in.

There are gentler zones on the inside, and the Florianópolis schools run beginner lessons at neighbouring Campeche and Barra da Lagoa. Joaquina proper gets strong rips and heavy peaks on bigger winter days — go with a school until you know it.
