Itamambuca
Ubatuba's marquee break, a sand-bottom beach at the north end of the bay fed by the Rio Itamambuca. A sandbank at the river mouth on the north corner shapes the best, fastest waves — predominantly rights, with lefts available on the outer banks — and the beach is fairly consistent, working through all tides. It fires on S/SE groundswells with NW/W offshores, hosts regional and national contests, and was designated Brazil's National Surf Reserve.

The mellow inside and small clean days are workable for learners with a school, and most Ubatuba surf schools bring beginners here or to the calmer Praia Grande and Perequê-Açu. Be honest about the hazards: the river-mouth right gets fast and powerful, the river creates current, and the peak crowds badly on good days — beginners should stay on the whitewater/inside and out of the main takeoff.
