About this camp
Clapo Surf Camp is a family-run camp in the fishing village of Imsouane, founded by brothers Abderrahim and Houssine with their mother Aicha. It pairs accommodation and home-cooked Moroccan meals with group, semi-private and private lessons from federation- and ISA-certified instructors, plus board hire, yoga and cooking classes. Imsouane’s long, sand-bottom Bay wave makes it a forgiving place to progress; reviewers single out fast improvement with the private coaching. Guided day trips run to Taghazout, Agadir and Mirleft.

Overall, I'd call it a 3.75 out of 5 — a strong 7.5/10, genuinely good, just not quite a 4 for the price. The people made it. The camp itself was decent — two buildings a two-minute walk apart, each with three floors of apartments. My solo room was a decent 4/5: clean, a/c, hot running water, and good for the price. The food was usually good — some days better than others, but most of the time a 4.5/5. On value I'd put it at a 3.5/5: it wasn't inexpensive, so I expected a bit more. Where I felt let down was the surf coaching. I'm an intermediate, but I got grouped with surfers a bit under my level, so instead of being taken to the Cathedral I was kept in the Bay with the novices. The video analysis was good, just infrequent. Even so, I had a great time — Clapo and the coaches were great, the people were great, and the food was good. I'd say the camp is better suited to beginners and novices; for intermediates, I think the coaches should take you out to the Cathedral when the Bay goes really small.
