Praia do Recreio dos Bandeirantes
An exposed, very consistent west-zone beach break next to Macumba, famous in Rio as a longboarding wave — long, workable sand-bottom rights and lefts that reward smooth surfing. It picks up S groundswell best, with N/NE winds blowing offshore and some shelter from E winds at the sheltered Pontal end. Summer often goes flat; autumn (around March) and the winter S-swell window are the reliable seasons. Warm water year-round and a full cluster of surf schools on the sand.

A good next-step beach for improvers rather than absolute beginners — the waves are forgiving and the schools work the sand here and at neighbouring Macumba. It crowds up fast when the swell is on, and there are rocks at the Pontal do Recreio corner plus the usual west-zone rip currents. Start on the inside reforms with an instructor.
