Prainha
The wave Rio's serious surfers drive west for — a small cove at the far end of the west zone, backed by protected Atlantic forest, that picks up more swell than anywhere else around the city. Three sections work on a good S to SW groundswell: a powerful barrelling left, a long right off the headland, and a fun middle peak. NW is the offshore wind and it surfs on all stages of the tide. Autumn through winter is the season, peaking around May; summer is mostly flat. Sources call it very consistent, working around 150 days a year.
