Playa Grande (Río San Juan)
One of the DR's most powerful and picture-perfect beach breaks, near Río San Juan about an hour east of Cabarete — a long stretch of golden sand backed by cliffs that turns on with heavy, hollow peaks when the winter north swell fills in. A clear step up from Encuentro in power and consequence.

Not a beginner wave when it's working — strong currents, a heavy shorebreak and powerful peaks. It's for improvers and advanced surfers on the right swell; beginners should learn at Encuentro or Macao first.
