Praia dos Ingleses
The long north-facing arc that the north of the island falls back on when the wind is hard from the south — one of the few places up here that stays clean when everywhere else is blown out. Ingleses takes E/NE swell and is at its best with S/SW wind, the reverse of most of the island. It is a long beach with several banks, so the practical trick is the one the local guides describe: walk until you find the size you want rather than paddling out at the first peak you see.

SOURCES DISAGREE ABOUT THIS BEACH and the entry takes the more cautious reading. Florianópolis Guide rates it intermediate-and-up and describes fast shorebreak tubes; Brazilian coverage describes it as a good option for beginners precisely because you can walk the beach to find a smaller bank. Both are true of somewhere this long. Treat the shorebreak as real — it is fast and it breaks close in — and start at the mellower end of the beach with a school rather than at the first peak.
