Praia de Garopaba
Garopaba's town beach — the versatile, multi-peak main beach of one of Santa Catarina's most established surf towns, 90 km south of Florianópolis. Sand-bottom rights and lefts break along it and it holds shape at all tides, staying smaller and more forgiving than the heavier reef and beach breaks nearby (Ferrugem, Silveira, Rosa), which is why it's the town's teaching beach and popular with families and surf schools. Best on the S/SE winter groundswells with NW/W offshores; cooler water calls for a spring suit or 3/2. A bonus that's genuinely worth timing a trip around: southern right whales are often visible from the coastline from July to November.

The most accessible surf in Garopaba and a well-supported place to learn, with several surf schools on the beach and gentle inside reforms. It's mellower than Ferrugem and the region's reef breaks, but it still gets rip currents and crowds — stay on the sandy middle and inside, mind the rocks toward the harbour end, and take a lesson to start.
