Arpoador
The most famous wave in Rio — a peaky beach break wedged between Ipanema and Copacabana that fires left along the rocks and is far more consistent in the winter south-swell season, when it can reach well overhead. Iconic, central, and always crowded.

Arpoador is a crowded, competitive peak better suited to intermediates. First-timers in Rio are better served on the long, forgiving beaches of Barra da Tijuca and Macumba, where the schools teach.
