About this camp
The most structured coaching operation on the Bukit, and the oldest — Padang Padang Surf Camp has run in Uluwatu since 2005. The day is built around surfing: two water sessions, groups organised by ability, and a coaching session in between that rotates through video review, land training, pool drills or surf skate. That resident coaching is included in the room rate, as is one-on-one time with the head coach on request. The coaching team is led by Richie, who grew up at Bingin and has taught here for over twenty years, and Randy, a former Rip Curl Grom Search winner. Beginner and intermediate group lessons are capped at six. Around 20 guests at a time, all in private rooms with en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning — no dorms — and you can arrive on any date rather than joining a fixed programme week. On site there's a pool, an ice bath and sauna, a surf skate bowl and pump track, a yoga shala and a shared workspace. Breakfast and a generous lunch are included daily, and stays of seven nights or more add return airport transfers and a Saturday BBQ. Read the pricing carefully: unlike most camps here, the room and the surfing are billed separately. The room rate covers the stay, the meals, the facilities and the resident coaching; in-water group lessons are GBP 20 a session or GBP 35 for two in a day, and guiding for independent surfers is GBP 12-20 a day. That suits surfers who want rest days or a non-surfing partner, and costs more than a bundled week if you surf twice daily. Dinner is not included — most evenings the group eats out nearby at your own expense.
