About this camp
Read the months on this one carefully: Bocas del Toro is on the Caribbean coast and runs on the opposite calendar to the rest of Panama in this catalogue. Its swell arrives December through March, peaking in December and January, exactly when Santa Catalina and Playa Venao are at their flattest — which makes this the winter answer for anyone whose dates are fixed. The guesthouse sits over the water steps from the centre of Bocas Town, and the pricing is unusually plain: a single lesson is $50 for a land theory session plus ninety minutes in the water with board, transport and rash guard; a three-day camp is $140; and the Break Away retreat is $975 per person for seven days and six nights, including a private guesthouse room over the water, six breakfasts, five progressive lessons, two technique theory sessions, unlimited board rental, round-trip transport, two yoga sessions and a free exploration day. The honest downsides are that no instructor ratio or group cap is published, and that the surrounding waves are reef and can be heavy — the school's beginner teaching is at gentler spots, but this is not the soft sand-bottom setup of Playa Venao.
